weekend tips

This weekend you have a few options for the outdoors.Make a trip to the Mill or Lang bay for a chance to hook some nice fish.Looking at my last years log book September 14th was a good day. This fishery will continue as fresh fish arrive to both these areas.
The lang creek hatchery is reporting record numbers of Pinks and some of the largest Coho in recent years.Stop by the hatchery and check it out, make sure to take the kids.
Kevin and Dale both harvested nice deer on the mainland in the last couple of days.Early reports seem to be much better than last year, remember on one deer bag limit for the mainland.
Local lakes are picking up so get all your trout gear in order as the trout fishing will get better by the day.
Tip of the day: If you are fishing Lang Bay or the Mill add scent to your lure..

whats happening

Busy day at P.R.O. today with lots happening, here we go.
-Record Elk taken in Powell River with muzzle loader this past weekend 10x9.
-not a bad start to the bow season on Texada, with a few spikes taken and many deer seen.Looks like a healthy population for this fall's hunt,Torger,Branden and Mike report good numbers of deer seen from recent trips.
-Lang Bay and The mill are still the hot spots for Salmon, the tide is the key so fish the tide change.
-Stop P.R.O. and test shoot the x-caliber crossbow it's amazingly accurate.
-Two customers scored 100% on there boaters exam today,so come on down and get it done, amnesty is September 15.
We are in transition from summer to fall so there is many good deals on summer inventory so stop by.I would rather sell it than store it.Keep an eye on local shaw t.v. as i will be do an episode on the upcoming hunting season.
If you plan on hunting Texada and would like access to private land(rooster) stop in and i can give you the contact. This will give you many more hunting areas.
Stay tuned i will try and post a photo of the 10x9 Elk and i will also give you an update on the P.R.O. top rod derby leaders, who will win the Islander MR3? . Sam Out...

P.R. Ling Cod

Nice Ling last week.Dont forget this fishery goes till the end of September...

Green Ghost Victims.(lang bay)

Slaying Salmon

Well i am back from holidays and the best way way to get back into the swing of things is to go fishing. The last couple trips fishing has been steady.Sunday and Monday August 30-31 Our group managed to land a few Chinooks beetween 15-23lbs as well as nice Coho from 8-11lbs.We also witnessed a few anglers landing large fish at Lang Bay.Green Ghost Hoochie has been my lucky lure as well as my Sons. Tod from Kelowa was lucky enough to land a 45lb Chinook on the Wonderbread Coyote, this is one of the biggest fish caught in Powell River in a long time.
The Mill has also been good for fishing. This could be because of the fish being taken from the mill hatchery and released into Theodosia to soon thus imprinting on Powell Lake then scooling up at the Mill. This should continue well into September.
Harwood has also been fairly steady for Salmon and Crabs,so if Lang Bay is to far of a run try the Mill or Harwood.

Thursday, August 20, 2009

Well if you have been out Salmon fishing recently you know that it is very spotty right now.Its just a matter of time before another run shows up, so be prepared maybe get some chores done to make room for some rod days when more fish show up.Beach fishermen have been having some steady luck at Lang Bay,many pinks and a few nice Coho being caught.
Pro Top Rod Derby has started, stop by P.R.O. for all the details.By the looks of the early entries its gonna be an all-star line up.Team Steelhead will the ones to watch early out of the gate.Team Cody/Glen may be the sleaper in this one.Team Cole& Nico are ready to join the big leagues so watch for them also.Dan Hatch could very well win Both the Salmon and Coho spots as he puts in the time, both from shore and via boat.Stay tuned for updates on this derby......

Well, some nice size salmon coming in. Conratulations to Tod and Ted for catcing four hogs ranging from 38 to 20lbs.Steelhead(Steve Brach) started this off a night before with a couple of twenty pounders and Myself along with Bill managed to catch a few Chinooks ranging from 21 to13lbs,aswell as a couple 10lb Hatchery Coho.
The next few weeks you are going to see many big Chinooks come in.Ensure you have glo hoochies as well as the ugliest Coyote spoon you can find, look for glo finishes.Glen also has been busy cleaning fish having landed a couple in the teens.
Backside of Harwood also will be open next week so check it out.
