Tight lines

The fishing just keeps getting better in Powell River(The Pearl Of The World)Salmon.Rainbow Trout,Cutthroat Trout and Steelhead, take your pick..
Salmon Fishing
Harwood Island is still giving up plenty of Salmon,Liam Phyall and his Dad stop by P.R.O. for the latest reports and headed out to the West side of Harwood. They new the key was depth, they lowered there gear to 200 feet and within a minute they had there first of three Salmon.Liam (pictured above)won't forget this trip as it was his first Salmon, way to go Liam of course he was using a P.R.O. Hoochie.
Toba
Steve and the boys headed up to Toba for some winter springs and it also produced within minutes. In the end Team Brach hoocked 8 Chinooks ranging from 18-8lbs,that will go good with the jumbo prawns they picked up....Anchovies did the trick ounce again 200 plus feet...
Trout Fishing
Lois lake had anglers tired out with some anglers reporting 40 or more fish ranging from 5-10 plus pounds...Lois is on fire at this time with the odd slow day.If you want some great action simply head up to Lois, you are guaranteed a good work out and so is your gear...
Prawn Fishing
This fishery remains open in area 15-2 Powell River,Harwood,Vivian,Savary ect...Prawning is good in Thunderbay also....275-350'

Mid January

Well the Bow season will come to an end this weekend, but there are a few of us heading over for the P.R.O. Archery Buckmasters...There have been a few deer harvested in the last week as they are finnaly starting to move a bit more...A few reports of a second rut with bucks fighting, rubbing and chasing does, this should help..Most deer have been taken in the afternoon and of course some have shed there antlers.
Salmon fishing continues to be good,no shortage of winter Chinooks, simply head out get your gear down 160-250' and you will catch fish...Harwood,The Mill,Thunderbay and Lund all producing...
Local lakes are steady also with Lois being the most active, one angler reported huge schools of rainbows on the surface at Lois,if your fly fishing try a reel slow retrieve on a full sink line or simply troll a leach pattern.Stop by for the Lois Leach...
Boat Launch...
Nothing new to report on the westview launch, still day to day....stay tuned. Sam Out..

Fishing: Salmon fishing has been great with many winter springs landed. Most range from 7-13lbs and are generally beetween 160-210'.Army Truck Hoochie,Black Magic and of course anchovies are a sure bet.Backside of Harwood and the Mill have been the best areas,Steve was out yesterday and hooked 14 Chinooks taking a few home...

Trout fishing seems to be on and off at this time however look for this to pick up after this cold snap...

prawns : This fishery is great at this time,Savary,Harwood,Vivian island are producing great numbers so get out there...

Boat Launch: As far as the Westview launch goes i am hoping for an opening in February until then launch at Gibsons Beach,Lund or Saltery Bay.If you launch at Saltery Bay fish in Thunderbay good winter chinook area 150-220'..

Boat Launch/Fishing

Boat Launch
Well some bad news.I just recieved word today that the Westview boat launch will not be open over Christmas as was to be the case.Due to damage to the ramp and liability concerns the ramp will remain closed until further notice. To be honest i am tired of waisting my energy on getting information on the ramp,so if you read the peak tommorow hopefully they will keep everybody posted on what is happening. You would think the City would spend a couple bucks every now and then to keep people and businesses affected by the ramp closure in the loop, but it seems we dont matter, anyone want to buy some prawn gear...don't think so.
Fishing
For the few that have had a chance to drive to Lund and launch the fishing has been very good as it always is this time of year.Plenty of Prawns out-there and Winter Springs Behind Harwood and at the Mill.Oh remember no launch in Westview....
Lois Lake
Rainbows on Lois have been very aggressive so if you get a chance don't Delay...
Bon Natale......HO-HO-HO.....

Hudsons Hope Muley

Me and cousin Nick managed to get our Mule Deer. The wolves did better than us on the Whitetails...A great hunt i now know what -33 is like...

December News

Well holidays are over and lots of work to do.I am just back form the peace country,(Hudsons Hope) We managed to harvest two nice Mule Deer, what a trip.As far as the local seen lets get you up to date..
Hunting
The local season for deer is over in 2-12 however 2-16 (Texada )remains open for bucks until .Dec15 . The archery season in 2-16 runs from Dec 15- Jan 15,so get out and cut your tags..I would say the Texada season started off withn a bang and then sputtered out of a ten i would say it was a 7.5...However it is not over yet...
Salmon Fishing
Well for those that have managed to get out ,you now the fishing is good.Winter springs have been averaging from 8-13lbs.Mike has the hot hand with two chinooks in the teens limiting out last week..
The boat launch
Well here is the latest...Dont expect to be launching your boat in westview anytime soon due to the ongoing work.To make things worse the ramp has been crushed by the dreger causing plenty of damage...I am guessing January-March before we can launch if we are lucky..As far as i am concerned this is unacceptable and it just goes to show the lack of (safe) boat launches in Powell River. It boggles the mind,Powell Lake has better launching facilities than all of Powell Rivers coastline..I realize we will hopefully have a nice harbour down the road,it wont make up for all the time, money and opportunities missed because the lack of facilities...
Trout Fishing
This fishery is prime at this time Nantom lake is the lake of the week with many nice trout being caught. This will last for6-8 weeks so get going...Sam Out...
